Gustav only sideswipes New Orleans as levees hold (AP)

According to the Associated Press "A weaker-than-expected Gustav swirled into the fishing villages and oil-and-gas towns of Louisiana's Cajun country Monday, delivering only a glancing blow to New Orleans that did little more than send water sloshing harmlessly over its rebuilt floodwalls." New Orleans levees hold as Gustav winds down

Reuters-Thomson confirms that Hurricane Gustav has weakened to a tropical storm on late Monday. This comes after Gustav crashed into the Louisiana coast and New Orleans where, according to Reuters "rebuilt levees managed to hold floodwaters out of the city devastated by Katrina three years earlier." Phone companies prepare backup plans for Gustav (AP)

According to Associated Press reports - Hurricane Gustav could be a test for the United States wireless carriers, "which faced criticism and a regulatory push after Hurricane Katrina took out networks." Source AP

Gustav weakens, closes in on Louisiana coastline (AP)


The Associates Press reports that - "A weakened Hurricane Gustav closed in on flood-prone coastal Louisiana Monday, bringing punishing wind and sheets of rain." The report also stated that "the storm veered away from New Orleans, where only a few holdouts and those that refused to abandon Bourbon Street remained." Source AP

Using Utterz to help Coordinate

Bearing in mind that most people will most likely have a mobile phone I thought it would be prudent to investigate whether Utterz would be suitable to help coordinate help/assistance for Gustav. This would also allow those who do not have persistent internet connectivity to still be able to access help/information via a normal mobile phone-call.

This would be one example of how Utterz would work.
