Need feedback asap of what we should put here. Obvious stuff includes widgets for major info sources (twitter, google news, etc,) widgets of user-generated content tagged gustav, links to donation and volunteer sources (including phone #s), official govt alerts, etc. What else? Any thoughts on how to organize it?

Here's what I did in 2005 for Katrina, if it'll help us brainstorm:

Perhaps a wall or a forum where people in neighboring states that can offer space to lower income evacuees can post ads or notifications? Ride offers and solicitations.

I suppose that could also be under volunteer sources but this may include individual efforts as well.

I would prep a google map ap with location and get screen grabs of the coastline now, for a before after. Have we found anyone on the ground evacuating to maybe crowd source for shelter info and road conditions?

How about a feed from Topix.com? They're all about micro-level local information. http://www.topix.com/hurricane/hurricane-gustav

Yahoo Pipes - or other aggregation tool - to build distinguished feeds for

1) *official statements,
2) *reports,
3) *shelters & contact info,
4) craigslist and other regional bulletin board info: (wanted / offered / urgent), etc...

A section for lost or missing family members.

Our affiliates conducted an interview with a Hurricane Katrina survivor after the tragedy and the survivor indicated that some of her family members were still missing . So, we used the video to circulate information regarding the missing family member and to reconnect them.

Here's what I can do if this is not already being done by others - and it will begin in 30 minutes as this cafe has a really slow Internet connection so I have to go home to do this:

- try to find breaking news reports and post links and try to find RSS feeds and post them to Ning? or Wiki?
- go on the Wiki and post any find advice found on what to do when a hurricane strikes (water in bathtub, etc.)

Would this be helpful as a start?

Here's a helpful link from NO CL for what you're trying to do: http://lazlosbasement.com/blog/2008/08/28/hurricane-gustav-threaten...

No need for anyone to wait for permission to tackle something. If you've got something you can work on, just tell us what you're gonna do then dive in. I still have to get my toddler to bed, so I'll be online sporadically for the next hour. wiki is being problematic, so until it's resolved let's stick with ning for everything

Right now I'm just link gathering. I'll keep digging around for helpful info/links/feeds.

Definitely should include a prominent link to Red Cross Safe & Clear registry - https://disastersafe.redcross.org/
