For the past 7 yrs. I've concentrated on innovative ways of using personal, networked communication devices -- esp. cell phones -- to create ad hoc, emergency communications networks and capitalize on the power of social networks to bring about emergent behavior / "wisdom of crowds" solutions (best example I know of? Spontaneous, self-organizing evacuation of Lower Manhattan by boats on 9/11).
