Techies: please read about PeopleFinder Interchange Format

Hi everyone,

If you're even slightly technically inclined, please read up on the PeopleFinder Interchange Format (PFIF) we developed in the wake of Katrina.

I'm hoping that evac efforts will lessen the numbers of missing people, but nonetheless want to make sure that anyone who sets up missing persons resources follows this format.

thanks

You guys should take a look at portablecontacts.net/draft.html. We're intending to make this spec the standard for contact data moving forward -- and it will become part of the 0.9 OpenSocial spec...

Would be very wise to see how we could work together here!

FEMA has a family locator service via phone, but I'm pretty sure they're not using PFIF, and I'm not confident that they'll have their act together re data.

We should probably do more to publicize PFIF. Question is whether we need another PF project, whether there will be a need to scrape and organize unstructured data?

I don't know what format the Red Cross Safe and Well List uses.
